I didn’t enjoy the 2012 Apprentice and as outlined in a previous blog feel that the BBC need to finish it now and come up with something new and more innovative. https://fionadranesblog.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/apprentice-2012-same-old/
However in saying that I actually did enjoy the final episode and did actually agree with the final outcome. Not because I am a Ricky Martin fan. I wasn’t and though I was not keen on any of the candidates I did feel that on the task side of things Jade had performed the best followed by Nick! But this is an issue that I have with the new format! It’s not about a job it’s about investing in a business! Therfore it’s no longer about personality it’s about business ideas. https://fionadranesblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/episode-three-lead-from-the-front/. So for me it’s not about the people but their business ideas and I struggle to see why this is not the focus of the Apprentice from the start.
This though is what the final episode was about. With the old format would Ricky have won? I doubt it but his idea as an investment was the only one that I would have considered.
Jade’s idea was a huge disappointment but that is because I personally hate telemarketing and cold calling with vengeance and won’t buy from anyone who phones me up in this manner! I don’t think though I am alone in this. Which is exactly why Lord Sugar did not invest! Nick’s idea perplexed me greatly though I liked it far more than Jade’s but I couldn’t see how it was going to work or make money! The idea was to use a website to find out meals ideas then you could get all the ingredients delivered to your door! I realise that I live in a rural area and therefore it is unlikely it would be viable for this service to work but would it work in the city? I often Google recipes but it’s mainly to get ideas for leftovers and if you are wanting to cook most people want to cook there and then! Not wait till the ingredients arrive hours later! Sorry I just didn’t get it!
Then there was Tom’s idea which was a wine hedge fund! Simply find these things a major risk and in this day and age not sure who would want to invest. Which brings us to Rick. His recruitment agency specialising in science was well thought out and you got the impression the business plan and it’s action plan was sound.
So I was glad that Lord Sugar had gone for the strongest business idea! But I still feel that the new format doesn’t work it is still focusing on the personalities not the business ideas and for me the Apprentice has had its day and the BBC should FIRE Lord Sugar and the Apprentice!
