Catching up

Apologies it’s been two weeks since my last blog post.  My excuse is that having been laid low with a throat infection for two weeks I am still playing catch up both personally and particularly at work.

Work wise the first week back was all about catching up and trying to do three weeks work in a week so it did rather pass by in a blur!  Though I did manage to get myself well immersed in thinking about price.   And had a fascinating week researching for a conference for a group 0f 4 and 5 star Self Caterers at St Andrews Old Course Hotel.  For me preparation for anything is the key to success so by the end of the week I could have written a book on the topic!

The conference was on Tuesday of this week.  Firstly I have to say that I was really impressed with the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews not though because of the product.   It was what I would expect with a few exceptions (dust in the toilet) but I was very impressed with the staff.  I was really delighted with the warmth of welcome and the focus that the hotel has on giving exemplary service and does so by both empowering and valuing their staff.  It shows a 5 star product is not just about the product it is about creating memorable experiences.

It was also good to spend the day with a group of businesses who were keen to discuss and learn from each other and hopefully the speakers!  Lots of interesting discussion on topics such as the name of self catering is it relevant today?  To the benefits of Trip Advisor, Social Media and offering extra packages and services.  A future blog piece will discuss the price in more detail and some of the topics discussed.

As well as a trip to St Andrews I have also had client meetings this week in Gala and Peebles.  As well as a trip to Dolce and Gabanna (other wise known as Dumfries and Galloway) to meet a new client with a very exciting product.

Must admit I am very relieved it’s now Friday!  I am in the office for the first day this week!  Have a full to do list but come 4pm I am meeting a friend for a coffee at Mainstreet in St Boswells and the weekend can begin!  Though must admit although I have caught up with work homewise there is rather a large laundry and the house could really do with some TLC!

But…………………………………………………….You can feel guilty about such things.  However at the end of the day life is too short and you can only do so much!  The kids are happy and well and I am back to reading Paddington Bear (voted best-loved animated character) and Harry Potter.   In my view reading far more important than a spotless house!   And as for the dust well it can wait!  Because unlike childhood it always comes back to visit!
