New Year resolves

I’m not really a great one for New Year resolutions and usually find that I start out well and then very quickly go back to my normal habits.  So much so that for a couple of years I decided that New Year resolutions were a waste of time.  As most of us really revert back to what we like doing.

This year though I decided on a resolution that I knew I had a good chance of keeping.  As many of you will know if you read this blog or my Twitter account I am a great reader yet I have no record of all the many thousands of books it must be that I have read in my lifetime other than relying on my own memory.

So in December I decided that 2012 would be the year when I would write down all the books I read with a small review for each one.  I kept this thought to myself and told no one.  But was delighted to find in my Christmas presents a book review notebook from a friend who must have read my mind.

To date I am on book four and am enjoying recording the books that I have read and writing reviews.   I am wondering how many books that I will actually read over the course of the year and the breakdown of genre from adult fiction, children’s fiction and business.  It will be great to look back on them all and remember reading them.

So a resolve that I can keep.  As I said my usual resolutions that I have had since I was an adult of losing weight, cutting back on wine and not shopping I had decided not to bother with this year untill my daughter made me think again.

My daughter and I were discussing someone we know on a diet and I commented that the person concerned was slim.  Then the cutting comment came “No mum she’s not she’s middling like you.”

Well it made me think I don’t want to be super skinny but I certainly don’t want to be middling she touched a nerve as she’s right.   So I am resolved to try to lose some weight and do more exercise.

I read in the newspaper yesterday that new habits are kept if you set goals and talk about them.  So the goals are set I have set a target weight that I want to achieve and I will keep you up to date on progress.

And in case you are wondering about the shopping resolve I am keeping that one on hold.  Persuading myself that I am far better than I was on that front and we all need a few of life’s pleasures don’t we?
