We are taking the last week of the holiday off. We always do and it’s really the last relaxation and family time before we all go back to routine and we head for cooler climes. Though I will still be hoping for an Indian summer well into October.
But this is really the last week that we have off that we can truly say will be mid summer. We are really fortunate that my parents have a house in the Lake District. Which we all love. And given we spent our main summer holiday at the beach due to the tropical conditions in the Costa Kintyre. We are all in the mood for a week of some great walks and the Lake District fits that bill. My son wants to climb Place Fell and I want to do Gowbarrow Circuit. We need to buy school shoes and trainers and Kendal Clark Village fits the bill nicely for that. Plus it will allow my husband and I to enjoy treating ourselves to some food at Booths our favourite supermarket with its focus on fresh local produce. So Lake District sounds ideal doesn’t it. But?
Well I am well aware we are lucky to have the choice as there is much to stay for in the Scottish Borders. We love walking from Selkirk back to St Boswells and treating ourselves to a cake at Mainstreet. Or a trip to Holy Island and fish and chips at Eyemouth. Or if it’s really warm a day at the beach in Coldingham. A trip up to the Eildons and yet more berry picking at Border Berries.
So what’s it going to be home or away? Well as we love both places we are going to look at the weather and see which has the best forecast East or West. I will keep you posted.
