Christmas in June!

Today it’s the 15th of June Christmas is six months and ten days away.  But tomorrow I get Christmas in June as tomorrow the Borders Book Festival starts four days of book heaven for me.  Lots of interesting events to attend, people who make me think and people who challenge me.  Four days of books, authors, books, authors, harmony gardens, books, authors I just can’t wait!

As many of you who read this blog will know I love books it is one of my passions in life.  The thing that if I went to a desert island might reduce me to taking a kindle with the maximum number of books on it and the ability to be powered by the sun.

I have loved book events since I was a child and have told in a previous blog entry of still today loving iced buns as they remind me of meeting Paddington Bear and his author in Smith’s in Glasgow as a very young child.  I also attended a few book events when  I was at senior school and loved the thrill of being amongst authors and books.

It has never left me.  I love the Borders Book Festival from the moment it starts though dread walking through the doors of harmony gardens as it finishes for another year.  As a family it’s a highlight in our calendar and we wait for it eagerly from January onwards.  The excitement of waiting for the programme, picking our tickets trying to restrain myself then counting down the weeks till finally I have only a day to go.

We are going to lots of events from Sarah Brown, Mark Beaumont, John Byrne, Maggie Farrell at Mainstreet Trading, Family Day pass, Maureen Lipman!  It’s just going to be four days of books and more books.  Plus this year I am challenging myself to attend Vivian French’s creative writing course for children!  Quite excited about it but daunted at the same time.  But that is what the next four days is all about.

So the weather forecast might not be great, summer may have left us in April, I have a hundred and one things to do and think about.  However come tomorrow night my thoughts are of one thing and one thing only.  The Borders Book Festival and books, books and more books!  Christmas in June can’t wait.   Will keep you posted how we get on.
